Geology and Geophysics Research Team
Geology & Geophysics Research Team deals with key technologies related to Petroleum Geoscience. We contribute to improve interpretive technology on Geology and Geophysics for various stages of Exploration and Production activities through a variety of researches.
We carried out following researches during 2003-2004:
1. Quantitative analysis of source rock and crude oil using porphyrin compounds
Porphyrine is an organic compound originating in vegetable chlorophyll and it was recognized for many years that the porphyrine compound exists universally in oil. Recently, we developed analytical method for these compounds by using a gas chromatograph mass spectrometer.
2. Surface consistent deconvolution optimized for noisy seismic record

We optimized surface consistent deconvolution method for the noisy seismic record. The extended surface consistent spectral decomposition made it possible to extract the reliable surface consistent components on amplitude of basic wavelets from the noise-contaminated seismogram. It also improved the seismic resolution controlling the noise level in the final production.
3. Elastic velocity measurement and rock physics for unconsolidated sediments
Core velocity measurements play an important role when we transform the seismic response to the reservoir properties. By establishing more rational relations between them through ultrasonic measurements, we can predict the reservoir properties in the field. Recently, we have developed a new elastic wave velocity measurement system for unconsolidated rock samples. And we measured elastic velocities of some unconsolidated rock samples containing methane hydrates which were obtained in the deep-water area in Japan.
4. Collaborative study with PEMEX E&P in Mexico
This is a reservoir characterization study project at the Cuitlahuac Gas Field in the Burgos Basin, Mexico in order to identify gas pool and/or lithology by adding S-wave information.
