Technology Development Business
JOGMEC’s Technology and Research Center is carrying out R&D that aims at improving petroleum exploration and production technology. As a state-owned institute, the Center provides technical support to Japanese oil companies.　TRC has three research project teams and two research divisions. The three research teams concentrate on the particular technology areas, such as carbonate reservoir, natural gas and methane hydrate development. The two research divisions, Petroleum Engineering Research Team and Geology and Geophysics Research team, cover wide-ranges of E&P expertise.

International Research Collaboration Business
ADNOC
In 2000, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was concluded between Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) of United Arab Emirates and Japan National Oil Corporation. Under the MOU, we have been cooperating in administering various research projects to develop new technologies to improve the oil recovery.
RIPI
JOGMEC started joint researches with the National Iranian Oil Company Research Institute of Petroleum Industry (NIOC/RIPI), and conducted research projects such as "Reservoir Properties Estimation by Seismic Attributes with Vp & Vs Measurements of Core Samples in the Azadegan Field", "Basin Modeling in the Central Albolz Basin" and "GTL Process Development of the RIPI’s Ray OCM Technology".
PEMEX
On October 15, 2003, JOGMEC entered into agreement with PEMEX E&P to extend the general agreement on technical collaboration for 5 years as well as to start two projects; "Optimization of development scheme in Agua Fria, Coapechaca and Tajin Area" as second phase of the joint research on Chicontepec Basin, and "Collaborative study on S-wave seismic technique and other geophysical methods for exploration and development of Cuitlahuac gas field in Burgos Basin".
Schlumberger
Schlumberger K.K. and JOGMEC have been developing Pulse Neutron LWD, and the project is almost at the final stage to release an innovative logging tool.

Technical Training Business
As Overseas Training Business for petroleum experts in the oil producing countries, we have been operating four regular courses; "Advanced Drilling Management", "Reservoir Engineering", " Geophysics" and "Exploration Geology”, and ad hoc courses as “Liquefied Natural Gas”.

Overseas Geological Survey Business
In 2003, we did geological surveys on Azadegan, Iran and Burgos, Mexico. We also conducted geological studies in Iraq, the Gulf of Mexico, and Equatorial Guinea.
